This entry lists the best and worst for the past 30 days of the 2017 regular season, through games of Sunday, October 1. Here is an explanation of this weekly feature.

Comment of the week: It’s pretty easy to guess who’ll be the Players and Pitchers of the Month: José RamírezJ.D. Martinez, Justin Verlander, and Stephen Strasburg, right? Also, note that eight of the playoff teams were in the top five in won-lost record in their leagues over the past 30 days. Only one was in the bottom five.

I teach skiing in the winter. On the last day of classes, we instructors all say to each other, “See you next winter.” Being a realist, I add, “assuming I’m not dead.” This feature will return in mid-May 2018, assuming I’m not dead.
