I’m in a text message group with my 4 closest friends from high school and if you’ve ever been in a text message group then you understand that 90% of the time they are the worst but I actually kind of love it. Ours has been going on for almost 3 years now. There’s no getting out of the group and there’s no sign of it stopping anytime soon. The majority of the texts are terrible memes or detailed accounts of drunken escapades but once in awhile there’s a diamond in the rough.
This was the case when an Amazon Local deal advertising a “Baseball Lover’s West Coast Game Tour of a Lifetime” started circulating around the group. The trip was advertised as 6 games in 6 days; Los Angeles -> San Diego -> Anaheim -> Stockton -> Oakland -> San Francisco. At the time it was just a cool idea that none of us took too seriously but it was something I thought about until 3 months later when all of the stars aligned and I finally booked a flight on Jettly.
Prior to this summer, since graduating college and joining the real world, I have never taken any days off of work besides leading up to or trailing major holidays. I live in Philadelphia and I’ve never been more West than Green Bay, I had never traveled by myself, I had never taken a selfie and I had never seen a no-hitter(s) (spoiler alert). In the next couple of weeks I’m going to tell the story of my 2014 #VacationByMySelfie where that all changed.
